One of the most architecturally impressive and trendy new wineries in Temecula is Monte de Oro. Fashioned with a contemporary Tuscan theme, the soaring floor-to-ceiling windows are absolutely magnificent! Opulence surrounds you in the center tasting room, in every direction.
One of the most unique features at Monte de Oro is the glass-floored tasting room, which looks into the Barrel Cellar below. I have to admit, it’s a little unnerving to walk across the glass floor. You might be surprised to look down and see someone looking up!
Founded in 2002, Monte de Oro has 68 family owners from the Americas, South Africa and the United Kingdom who call themselves the OGB Parnters (One Great Blend).
Over 66% of the grape production is red — Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Zinfandel, Tempranillo, Petite Syrah, Mourvedre, Malbec, Grenache, and Cinsault. The remaining production is Estate grown white grapes comprised of Chardonnay, Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc.
Wine tasting is not to be taken lightly at Monte de Oro as there are several tasting options and a wide range of pricing. Private tours, signature tastings and barrel tastings are offered daily. To simplify things, I highly recommend the Black Label Tasting — six standard tastes plus three Black Label tastes. Three of my favorite wines were Monte de Oro‘s 2011 Viognier, the 2008 Syrah and the 2009 Vigna Vicini, a 50/50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Due to the limited production of the majority of the Monte de Oro wines, vintages tend to sell out quickly.
In warmer months, Monte de Oro showcases local talent on the outside patio and hosts corporate events and weddings. Not only will the panoramic views knock your socks off, so will their wines! A fantabulous way to spend a Sunday afternoon ~ Sip, Savor, Stay… www.montedeoro.com
